1. Attends Grand Knight Diocesan Training and causes all other officers
to attend
the respective training for their office. Also is responsible for
causing incoming
officers, following the council election, to attend the training that
is specific to their
elected office. This is one of the highest priorities (and examples set
for future
officers) for the Grand Knight.
2. Provides thoughtful and inspired leadership. Locate and read books
and
periodicals on “leadership”. Seek the counsel of
Past Grand Knights and the
council chaplain. Uses the State Leadership Guide as a core reference.
3. Is the chief administrative officer for the council (Make certain
that the council has
a solid, organized records keeping system for financial, membership and
program
activities. Keep copies of all forms completed and submitted for full
term of office.

4. Acts as ex officio member of all committees (Make certain that an
agenda is
prepared and that minutes are kept for all committee meetings; have the
leader
for each program activity complete and activity report MI Form XXX and
submit to
council for review; make certain that Financial Secretary has copies of
all
activities reports for completion of Supreme Form 1728 –
Annual Survey of
Fraternal Activities)
5. Represents Knights of Columbus Council on Parish
Committee’s as established
by the parish and the pastor.
6. Appoints membership and program directors and works closely with
them to
select committee chairmen (Membership chairs include: 1) Recruiting and
Admission and 2) Retention; Program chairs include: Church, Community,
Council, Family and Youth and others as appointed by Grand Knight).
7. Appoints and forms the Council Admission and Retention Committees
and
oversees their work (Admission includes: Blitz Drives, Council
Recruiting
Activities, Candidate review; Retention works actively as a committee
to seek
inactive members and to actively re-recruit them into the council).
8. Appoints special committees (Special Parish Anniversary Event,
Special Youth
Program, Highway Clean-up, etc.)
9. Presides over council meetings (is fully prepared in advance with
all topics of
discussion; confirms that all membership and committee reports are
fully
prepared by presenters; prepares all correspondence for council review;
follows
proper protocol at all times and causes all members in chamber to do
same;
prepares for any visiting dignitaries and invites them to address the
council;
maintains order at all times during the meeting)
10. Convenes the council officer meetings (minimally each month to
review council
planning, review important business needing to be reviewed and voted
upon prior
to presentation to the council; has a prepared agenda; is diligent
about
attendance by all council officers and appointed directors and
committee chairs)
